Goodwill Industries of Middle, TN

Location: Nashville, TN
Industry Sector: Retail, Occupational Skills Training, Resume Development, Job Placement and Job Retention Support

Organizational Background & Mission: Goodwill’s Mission Statement: Through the sale of donated items, Goodwill provides job readiness, job placement and skills training programs for people who are unemployed and face barriers to employment.

Goodwill Industries Middle TN, Inc. was incorporated in 1957. Initially, this Goodwill primarily worked with people who had disabilities by providing job training and other services. In 1994, the mission was expanded to include individuals without disabilities who had challenges ranging from a lapse in work history, no work history, lack of education and those with criminal backgrounds. The agency employs more than 2000 people with a territory covering 48 of the 95 counties in Tennessee. We operate 33 retail stores, 73 donation sites and 24 Career Solutions’ offices. Goodwill is one of the largest employers of persons with disabilities and more than 80% of our workforce reports having some type of disability or disadvantaging condition.

Interest in Sector Work: My interest is in learning the best practices in identifying, building and maintaining significant relationships between employers, potential employees and other partner agencies with a sustainable business plan. The ultimate goal is to match qualified workers with employers who can provide individuals with a career path and not just a job which will empower those served to be successful community members.
