Project Manager, Skilled Careers in Life Sciences Initiative

Organization:

Boston Private Industry Council

Location: Boston, MA
Industry Sector: Life Sciences (including biotech, pharmaceutical, laboratory, and medical device industries)

Organizational Background & Mission: The mission of the Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) is to strengthen Boston’s communities and its workforce by connecting youth and adults with education and employment opportunities that prepare them to meet the skill demands of employers in a changing economy.

Interest in Sector Work: In 2013, the PIC launched a new consortium to bring the region’s life sciences employers together with training and education providers, career centers, and workforce development agencies. The Metro Boston Life Sciences Career Consortium fosters working relationships, develops projects to support the workforce needs within this industry, and coordinates events that expand the public’s understanding of the life sciences, its role in public health, and the career opportunities it provides to Massachusetts residents.

This convening is a component of the Skilled Careers in Life Sciences (SCILS) initiative, which is funded by a federal grant awarded to the Mayor’s Office of Jobs & Community Services. The broader SCILS initiative supports occupational training at colleges and universities and paid internships with area employers, as well as recruitment, career guidance, and job placement for participants.
