Organizational Background & Mission: The Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas was incorporated as a not-for-profit following the passage of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 to manage federal job training funds and oversee the workforce development system in south central Kansas. As the Local Workforce Investment Board (LWIB) for Butler, Cowley, Harper, Kingman, Sedgwick and Sumner counties, daily operations of the Workforce Alliance are carried out by a professional staff, led by an Executive Director who serves at the pleasure of the Board.

The mission of the Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas is to develop and lead a flexible, integrated workforce system that identifies and responds to the current and future needs of our region and state.

Interest in Sector Work: The Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas operates PACES – Preparation for Advanced Career Employment System. PACES is a dual sector strategy focusing on the industries of aviation/advanced manufacturing and healthcare. PACES is supported through a regional funding collaborative made up of foundations, public and private funders, as well as local employers working together to strengthen and expand workforce partnerships. The mission of PACES is to create a more accessible and flexible employment and training system to move both unemployed and under-employed workers into high demand and high skill careers in the aviation/advanced manufacturing and healthcare industries. In addition to training, PACES focuses on systems change and policy advocacy.
