Organizational Background & Mission: The Training Fund is a labor-management education trust of the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees, District 1199C and fifty-two employer partners located in southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. Governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of half employer and half labor representatives, the Training Fund since 1974 has served both District 1199C union members and community residents including dislocated and low-wage incumbent workers, veterans, TANF recipients, youth, individuals with limited English proficiency, and individuals with disabilities with funding from private, local, state and federal grants. For 37 years, the Fund has played a critical role in raising the basic skills of students whose livelihood depends on their ability to meet healthcare employers’ increasing demands for advanced skills. The Fund’s mission is to provide students with access to the full spectrum of life skills, high school, and postsecondary education to enhance their upward movement along career pathways.

Interest in Sector Work: The Fund’s programs address this mission by preparing students for careers in healthcare and human services with occupational and workforce education programs, and providing them with basic educational programs that articulate with technical and collegiate courses.
