Primary Industry Sector: Security and Protective Services
Type of Organization: CBO

“The potential it provides in helping people get and keep good jobs, in helping employers meet their workforce needs, and most importantly in helping people plan careers that can help them sustain and support their families.”

Organizational Mission: Goodwill of Greater Washington’s mission is “we transform lives and communities through the power of education and employment.” We have been in existence since 1935.

Interest in Sector Work: In the past five years, Goodwill of Greater Washington has done sector work in the following fields: construction/sustainable building, banking, and hospitality. The sector we are focused on currently is security and protective services. We chose this sector after careful local labor market analysis, discussion with our community college partner, and input from leading employers in the industry. Our greatest hope is our sector work will help low income and disadvantaged job seekers access careers with living wages and post-secondary education to help them move beyond entry-level positions and wages. Residents of Northern Virginia will be most impacted by our work. Many of the residents we serve here are immigrants, have limited English proficiency, and lack the knowledge and ability to navigate the American workforce.
