“What excites me most about my sector work in building operations is that the results will be a well trained workforce that will reap economical benefits and will improve NYC’s environment.”
Organizational Mission: The City University of New York is the nation's leading urban public university serving more than 480,000 students at 23 colleges and institutions in New York City.
Interest in Sector Work: As part of the Green Career Pathway Initiative (GCPI) at CUNY, the university will launch a sector based workforce training program focused on building operations and energy efficiency. The purpose of this initiative is to meet the green workforce needs expected to be generated by recently enacted local laws requiring increased efficiency in the city’s building stock.
While it is generally expected that incumbent workers will consume the expected job opportunities generated by the new laws, it is my hope that through a sector based approach, the university will provide low income workers and job seekers the training needed so they may equally participate and benefit in the city’s green economy.
